Tournament History

Now in its seventh year of existence, Baseball At the Beach, was the brainchild of Myrtle Beach accountant and long time Myrtle Beach Seahawk supporter, Bob Calliham, and Georgetown chiropractor, Dr. Jim Owens.  Owens served for eight years as tournament director for the highly prestigious International Paper Baseball Classic held each year in Georgetown, SC.

In future years the tournament will feature, in addition to host Myrtle Beach High School, three of the top high school baseball programs in the state of South Carolina and four out of state and nationally ranked high school teams from throughout the United States.  Also participating in the annual Baseball at the Beach event will be Coastal Carolina University and three other college teams.  The tournament is run by a totally voluntary board of directors and numerous volunteers.

Future Tournaments Goals & Objectives

We strive to bring the finest high school baseball teams in the nation to Myrtle Beach each year.    The college teams  for 2007 are Coastal Carolina, Notre Dame, the UNC Wilmington, and North Carolina State University.  With the addition of these nationally ranked college teams we hope to add national television coverage within the next couple of years.  We feel that the Baseball at the Beach tournament will draw thousand of high school and college baseball fans to Myrtle Beach and bring national attention to the Grand Strand.  Our objective is to do for baseball what the Beachball Classic has done for basketball.  For the best in high school and college baseball, the place to be February 22 - 25, 2007 is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the Baseball at the Beach tournament.
